The end of the week walk through this week had a more serious feel in preparation of playing the Soul. We had issues due to trying to sign a new QB at the same time we are on a transaction hold, from the league, preventing us from making any signings. The walk through ended and all of the scouts loaded up the equipment truck as the team prepared to play Philadelphia.
The second day of practice this week we were still evaluating new QBs and coming back from a loss. I set up the field and helped out with the offensive and defensive line today. It is easy to see they are improving and working together to get better. The coach emphasized the importance of criticism among each other as encouragement to improve.
We opened up the week after another loss and got to work. Today we spent extra time working through things we performed poorly in the game. With an injury to our starting QB we brought in two new quarterbacks to possibly add depth. During practice I set up the field and worked with QBs and WRs and experienced how we evaluated the new QBs.
Being a home game everyone was expected to help make sure all the operations were taken care of. We had to make sure everyone’s tickets were taken to roll call, make sure all the players had their equipment and prep all the footballs. Once we completed all the operations it was time for the game. During the game we had a couple requests from players but besides that we had to evaluate player’s performances. Unfortunately we lost and after the game was over we needed to take care of the dirty laundry and make sure the game day and player’s equipment were loaded onto the truck.
Friday we prepped the arena for game day. We made sure that all the essential equipment we were responsible for made it to the arena. Following that we set up the player’s equipment in the locker room and then we prepped the trainer’s room.
Thursday practice was a sort of walkthrough without pads and minimal time in individual position groupings. The practice was completed early and then it was time to give out equipment to players so they are prepared for Saturday’s game. After we made sure the players had what they needed it was time to load the game day equipment into the truck. After we got the equipment and everything else needed for game day loaded into the truck we left practice and went into scouting individually.
Practice proceeded normally, and I worked with defensive backs, quarterbacks, and wide receivers. I also was the spot man to spot the ball for the game situation portion of practice. Following we had another personnel meeting where we discussed issues with the team and what positional needs we had. I suggested a few guys and we had a productive meeting.
Today we had practice as usual, the team was coming off a tough lose to the Arizona Rattlers so a good amount of time was spent in film. While the players and coaches were in film, the rest of us checked equipment and set up the facility. Being the beginning of the week we also brought in some waiver guys, which I had the task of making sure they filled out the waiver forms and were properly outfitted.
To wrap up the week the team had their final practice before traveling tomorrow. The duties and field set up was less extensive as it was a more relaxed practice. During practice we signed a new kicker from waivers who needed to be transported and assisted being his first practice. This job was delegated to me and I drove the kicker to his physicals and back at different times as well as helping him be where he needed to be. While doing this I had my first look at what is all involved in player acquisition from waiver forms and physicals to contract by watching the directors of player personal complete the forms.
Today the team had practice as usual and I completed my daily duties of setting up and taking apart the practice equipment. Beyond that, at the end of practice the scouts had a personal meeting in which we discussed hotlist players on each of our lists. Here the scouts interacted with the director of scouting, director of player personal and the coaches.
